Cyclone Aila 2009

On May 25th, 2009, Cyclone Aila smashed into the coast of West Bengal. 5.1 million people were displaced by the storm. 300,000 homes were destroyed. 270,000 were damaged. Members of The Family India are helping to rehabilitate the survivors.

South Asian Tsunami 2004

Called one of the greatest natural disasters of modern history, the South Asian Tsunami wreaked havoc along the coasts of Tamil Nadu. The Family India responded to this tragedy by carrying out a three-year multi-phased relief and rehabilitation programme in partnership with a dedicated grassroots NGO called the Coastal Earthquake Relief Programme.  Here is an overview of the Family India’s involvement in the relief and rehab programme.

Gujarat Earthquake 2001

In the wake of the 2001 earthquake which decimated Bhuj, Bachau, Anjar and other parts of western Gujarat, our relief teams cared truckloads of relief supplies and distributed them at the worst affected areas.

Latur earthquake, 1993

On September 30, 1993, a killer quake measuring 6.2 on the Richter Scale 8000 people and injured 16,000 in Latur and Osmanabad. Teams from The Family India worked along with the Indian Red Cross in many of the 52 affected villages.
