What's New
Ashritha
Ashritha is a Home for 60 orphans & children between the ages of 8-14 from very poor backgrounds. Members of The Family India adopted the management of this institution in July 2008 and have been running it ever since.
These children are provided with free boarding, lodging & education and are very thankful for it. On the 5th of August we had a special for them, we celebrated ‘Raksha Bandhan”, the festival of brotherhood and students from a local school came over to spend time and share in the fun activities with each other.
It was a joy to see the unity and brotherhood displayed by one and all as even the visitor’s joined in the fun. The same afternoon, there was a meeting on the importance and need of abolishing Child labour which was presided by the area's MLA. He was very happy with the progress and the care that the children being given at Ashritha. He also distributed some sponsored sports uniforms to all the children. . Finally, to make it a memorable experience, the children got to see a telugu film and it was the highlight of the day as they got to see it on an LCD TV.

- The importance of change for progress,
- The need to have a passion for excellence

On the last day, we organized a tour of Goa for all the participants.
Helping the Elderly
The Family Home has been providing support services to Old Age Homes in Hyderabad since 2002. One particular Home for the Aged run by the Little Sisters of the Poor, is home to 135 elderly people .
Every month we help to celebrate the birthdays of the elderly. On a typical birthday celebration we have all the birthday “boys & girls” sit up in front & the oldest one cuts the cake and distribute gifts for the birthday folks. There were also sumptuous snacks for all and while they were relaxing with their snacks they were entertained. To make it interesting every month we organize something different, be it Magic shows, Ventriloquism, Jugglers, Classical dances, Folk singers, Orchestra music to Movies & on occasions some of the elderly themselves perform. These Birthday celebrations are the highlight of the month with the elderly looking forward to them with anticipation and all the adulation and affection they get from us only make it more memorable for them.
