Finances and Revenue Structure

Individuals and entities associated with The Family India are autonomous, self-governing and self-supporting. While the specific sources of support for each of our members/entities vary, most rely largely on the material and financial support of helpful individuals and businesses that sponsor our local projects and expenses. We also receive income from the distribution of inspirational and educational books and audio-video products that we have produced. Many of our members conduct professional seminars for schools, parents, teachers and companies for which they charge a professional fee. Yet others print newsletters and periodicals and gain advertising revenue from them. We also have an “I-Pledge” programme through which concerned and like-minded individuals and organization give recurring donations.

Our Beginnings

In the early 80’s, a successful counselling programme was lauched amongst the youth of metropolitan India. Many college students and young professionals that were helped at this time began dedicating their time and talent to helping those in need. Over the nearly three decades that have followed, The Family India’s work has grown and evolved in response to what our members felt were the greatest needs of the times. Here, in a nutshell, is our evolutionary journeyand a brief overview of our ongoing projects...

Building a Better Future - Child by Child: Convinced of the truth of the maxim that the world of tomorrow will be what the children of today grow up to make it. The Family India began a nationwide value-development program which involved producing and distributing unique and powerful character education audio visual libraries in schools and households around India. These libraries have proven to be a tremendously effective means of teaching children universal moral values and essential life skills.

Training Seminars: Having made a profound impact at the primary school level, The Family India then turned its energies and resources towards helping adolescent high school students through motivational seminars and workshops. We also realized that in order to strengthen children you must also impact those who have the most influence on them, i.e. their parents and teachers. We thus began conducting training programs for teachers & parents which continue to this day.

Empowering the Deaf: There are 20 million deaf people in India. In 1988 members of The Family India began working with hearing impaired youth and today we actively help over 50,000 deaf youth all over the country.

Prison Reform: In 1993, we began working at prisons and conducting programmes benefitting a large cross-section of the inmate population, namely the women inmates and their children, the adolescent offenders, drug addicts and maximum security prisoners. Our work with prisoners entered its sixteenth year in 2009.

Disaster Relief: The Family India has also responded to several natural disasters that have struck the Indian subcontinent. Our relief and rehabilitation programs have helped the victims of the Latur earthquake in 1993, the Orissa cyclone of 1999, the Gujarat earthquake of 2001 and the 2004 South Asian Tsunami.

The Common Denominator – The Worth of the Individual: Despite the wide variety of projects and initiatives, The Family India has undertaken over the last three decades our core strength has always consisted of being able to help people on an individual and personal level through the time-honored means of personal counseling, lending a listening ear in time of need and simply being there for them. Our projects and programs have grown out of a fundamental and innate desire to care for those in need. We believe that for any social, educational, humanitarian or developmental endeavor to truly succeed, we need to respect each individual as a unique creation of God, regardless of their circumstances or station in life. The ability to see others not as they are but as they are capable of becoming is key to changing the world one life at a time.

Our Motivation

Members of The Family India draw motivation from the life and teachings of Jesus who taught and demonstrated with his life that man’s greatest duty is to “love God with all his heart, soul and mind and to love his neighbor (anyone who requires our help) as ourselves.” We have found through personal experience that God’s Words contain genuine answers to life’s problems and it is this knowledge that motivates us to give our all to the cause of making a difference in the world.

We believe that Jesus is a personal friend who walks with us on the road of life, ever ready to provide comfort, guidance and help, especially in today’s trouble-filled world.

As those who follow the teachings of Jesus, it is an inherent component of our faith to respect people of all faiths and religious persuasions, regardless of ethnicity, color, or nationality.

We serve all people regardless of religion, caste, race, ethnicity or gender.

In the interest of creating a tolerant, pluralistic society, we believe it is important to to actively promote tolerance and understanding. We maintain that human life is sacred and that each person should be respected as an individual created in the image of God.
