The ‘Tools for Schools’ sponsorship programme
There is a great need for effective character education programmes in Indian schools. The Family India has responded to this elementary need by putting together a unique library of books and audio visual materials for children called ‘Tools for Schools.’ This library consists of DVDs, Video CDs, Music CDs, activity books and storybooks teaches children universal moral values and life skills in an effective and entertaining way.
‘Tools for Schools’ is the result of nearly 15 years of research and development work by childcare experts from around the world who pooled their energies and skills to find an effective answer to the question that is posed by every teachers, parents, psychologists, and caregivers – “How can we teach children good values in a powerful, effective and unforgettable way?”
Here is what the Tools for Schools set contains:
Treasure Attic is an educational 19-part video series. Each episode features its personable host, Uncle Jim, his lovable sheepdog Peepers, and the energetic word-defining Bunny Bigword! Together they convey meaningful and lively lessons through songs and fun adventures. These videos are available in Hindi too.
Kiddie Viddie is a series of four behaviour enhancing music videos packed with bright and cheerful songs and is guaranteed to help young children learn valuable lessons and character-building principles.
Fantastic Friends is a whole new dimension in music videos. Each of the two videos consists of lively songs performed by kids, promoting family values and character building principles. Fantastic Friends a refreshing break from the violence and mediocre shows on TV today. These videos give kids something of lasting value.
Grandpa Jake Books: Each of the four books in the Grandpa Jake series contains six stories that provide young children with a fun and positive time of learning character-building lessons. The stories are designed to keep children’s attention while instilling a foundation of good behaviour and positive interactions with their peers.
Stories to Grow By: With full colour illustrations on every page, this series provides teachers with excellent tools to teach children positive lessons while having fun.
The Adventures of Trudge and Zippy is a beautifully illustrated and charming set of storybooks designed to help young children important character-building values and lessons in a fun and entertaining way.
The Tools for Schools Project consists of three components:
- Identifying needy and worthy schools who have the interest and capability of making good use of this library
- Identifying individuals and companies to sponsor ’Tools for Schools’ libraries for these schools
- Setting up the Tools for Schools Library in the recipient school and training teachers how to use this library effectively.
