Schools

Starting Point School

In Bengaluru, members of The Family India have opened a school for slum children called ‘Starting Point’. These children receive quality pre-primary as well as primary school education here free of cost. The children are taught elementary educational skills such as sight reading, mathematics and writing. In addition, they also engage in extracurricular activities such as arts & crafts, and receive training on topics such as manners & etiquette, health & hygiene, singing & performing arts and many other subjects.

The aim of the programme is to prepare the children to be able to get admission in good schools by the age of 6. Since the parents are not able to afford the fees, we find sponsors for all the children that pass out of our school so their schooling is secured until they finish high school.

Calcutta Marudyan

In 1998, members of The Family India took on the task of bringing education to rural children in a village 50 km outside Kolkata in 24 Paraganas.  What was once a small village school a decade ago with 170 students and 4 teachers in a makeshift shelter, is today a proper school building catering to 567 children with 18 teachers.

Beside academic education, we are also providing vocational training in the field of sewing, carpentry, car mechanics & computer training. Those who have completed their training receive West Bengal Govt. Certificates which makes it possible for them to get better jobs. Our Woodwork and Carpentry Course caters to 37 students and our Motor Mechanics course caters to 81 students.
